Although I have a BA in Economics and an MBA, I was dissatisfied with my career in provider relations at an HMO. I did not return to work after my first child was born in 1993, and had a second child three years later. In 2001, my younger son entered kindergarten and I went back to school to get my teaching credential through an alternative credentialing program. I began as an elementary school art teacher first full time in Texas and now 25 hours per week in California. It was quite a journey, and it times it was very difficult. It required me to leave my comfort zone. But I know this is the career for me. It doesn't even feel like work.
